Types Of Motion
Motion
In mechanical systems, motion can be categorised into four basic types. These are:
- Linear motion: Movement in a straight line. Think of a train moving along a straight track.
- Rotary motion: Circular movement around a fixed point, like a wheel turning or a gear rotating.
- Oscillating motion: Back-and-forth motion that repeats, like a pendulum swinging or a clock.
- Reciprocating motion: Linear back-and-forth motion, often seen in pistons within an engine.
